Did you know that the cement industry is one of the world’s largest sources of greenhouse gas emissions? In Vietnam, this sector is a vital pillar of economic growth – but it faces the urgent challenge of transitioning towards a low-carbon production to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
This critical challenge was the core topic of the 9th Hanoi Climate Talks, hosted at the Residence of German Ambassador Helga Margarete Barth under the theme: “Pathways for the Energy Transition and Decarbonisation in the Cement Industry of Vietnam.” – a discussion between experts from politics, science and economy.
Key highlights from the dialogue:
- Pathways to Net-Zero: Exploring innovative green technologies and regulatory solutions to eliminate emissions from cement production.
- A Strong Partnership: Presenting a brand-new, comprehensive study on Vietnam's cement sector, developed in close cooperation between the Embassy and GIZ under the framework of the DEU-VNM Energy Partnership.
- Vibrant Panel Discussion: An engaging exchange moderated by GIZ expert Michel Arnd, featuring practical insights from the Vietnam Institute for Building Materials, the Vietnam Cement Association (VCA), the Norwegian Embassy and UNIDO.
A huge thank you to all distinguished panelists, participants and guests for sharing their valuable expertise! Decarbonising our industries is a monumental task, but together we are driving real change.
