On November 5th, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and WWF Vietnam, organized a technical consultation workshop titled "Towards Busan – Scenarios for Vietnam." The workshop aimed to prepare for the 5th Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC-5) on the global plastic pollution treaty, which will take place from November 24 to December 1, 2024, in Busan, South Korea.

During the workshop, participants proposed negotiation scenarios and strategies for Vietnam to protect our country's core interests and actively contribute to the global dialogue on the upcoming plastic pollution treaty. The discussions focused on:
At the event, Dr. Nguyen Phuong Nam, CEO of KLINOVA Climate Innovation & Consulting, shared key insights and proposals to help outline an effective negotiation strategy for Vietnam at INC-5. He emphasized Vietnam’s alignment with Southeast Asian countries on plastic reduction initiatives and the country's negotiating conditions for COP1. Dr. Nam also highlighted the support of 14 countries under the GPAP program, including Vietnam. Additionally, he discussed the mechanism and principles for establishing a global financial fund for plastic reduction, based on existing funds (e.g., GCF, GEF) for conventions like the UNFCCC, Montreal Protocol, and the CBD. His contributions were highly praised by Mr. Le Ngoc Tuan, Director General of the International Cooperation Department at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, and a member of Vietnam's negotiation team.
