The Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) is gradually being implemented in Vietnam, opening up significant potential for scaling up in strategic sectors. JCM is a bilateral initiative between the Government of Japan and its partner countries, including Vietnam, to facilitate the transfer of low-carbon technologies, while enabling the two countries to share the resulting carbon credits.
In Vietnam, three notable JCM projects are currently being implemented across different sectors:
- Renewable Energy Generation - e.g., wind power in Quang Tri province, a collaborative effort between Japanese and Vietnamese enterprises.
- Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) - a water management technique in rice cultivation that significantly reduces methane (CH₄) emissions.
- Waste-to-Energy (WtE) - a plant in Bac Ninh converting 500 tons of municipal waste per day into 11.6 MW of electricity.
???? Each project is accompanied by a robust scientific methodology for Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) of greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions - a prerequisite for the issuance of carbon credits under the JCM framework.
