The session was led by Dr. Nguyen Phuong Nam, International Assessor of the UNFCCC and CEO of KLINOVA, who provided an overview of the carbon credit market, Viet Nam’s evolving legal framework, domestic and international carbon market mechanisms, and emerging opportunities for different market participants.
As Viet Nam continues to develop the legal foundation and operational infrastructure for its carbon market, strengthening institutional understanding of this area has become increasingly important, particularly for financial institutions. During the session, KLINOVA introduced key concepts related to compliance and voluntary carbon markets, the process of carbon credit generation, the role of state management agencies, and recent regulatory developments concerning international carbon credit exchange, the national registry system, and the domestic carbon trading platform.

In addition to policy updates and market practices, the discussion also highlighted opportunities for different groups of stakeholders, including emitting facilities, project developers, carbon credit trading entities, technology and service providers, and commercial banks. For financial institutions, the carbon market presents new opportunities to mobilize green finance, support enterprises in implementing emission reduction projects, develop climate-related financial products, and contribute to Viet Nam’s transition towards a low-carbon economy

The session featured an active and engaging Q&A discussion, with Agribank representatives raising many practical questions on market operation mechanisms, the potential role of banks, opportunities for developing financial products linked to carbon credits, and requirements related to data, standards, and risk governance. The strong learning spirit, proactive engagement, and openness to emerging green finance trends demonstrated by Agribank contributed to a highly constructive and practical exchange.
Through this session, KLINOVA continued to reaffirm its role as a specialized consulting firm in climate, carbon markets, and green transition, accompanying organizations, enterprises, and financial institutions in strengthening their capacity and preparing for new requirements related to greenhouse gas emission reduction and sustainable development in Viet Nam.
