Hosted by UNDP Viet Nam in collaboration with partners, the events took place at the InterContinental Landmark72 and convened representatives from government agencies, international organizations, businesses, research institutions, NGOs, and other stakeholders in the fields of environment and circular economy. The series forms part of Viet Nam’s ongoing efforts to develop a national strategy on circular plastics and actively engage in the global treaty negotiation process on plastic pollution.
The first day featured a technical workshop titled “From Data to Action,” which showcased research findings and practical models to support policy development and innovation. Presentations included: “Study on Plastic Material Flows and Scrap Demand in Viet Nam” (Viet Nam Plastics Association); “Integrating the Informal Sector into Solid Waste Management” (Hanoi Architectural University); “Plastic Waste Audits: Data Driving Policy and Corporate Engagement” (CEL Consulting); “From Data to Piloting in GO Circular” (GIZ); and “Impacts, Data and Solutions from the 3SIP2C Project” (Phenikaa University). A subsequent roundtable discussion underscored the essential role of data in developing feasible and effective local circular plastic solutions.
This was followed by a session on financing the transition, centered around a consultation on the 2030 Financing Roadmap for Plastic Action in Viet Nam developed by KPMG. A key highlight was the open discussion co-moderated by Dr. Nguyen Phuong Nam, CEO of KLINOVA, and representatives from KPMG, which explored private sector investment options, green finance mechanisms, financial innovations, and the strategic alignment between public policies and market readiness. The session provided a deep and practical exchange, laying the groundwork for a robust and sustainable financial strategy to support Viet Nam’s transition to a circular plastics economy.

Later on, NPAP held its 6th Leadership Board Meeting, reviewing achievements from the first half of the year and outlining plans for the remaining months of 2025. During this session, NPAP Viet Nam officially launched the Policy Technical Taskforce—an important step toward enhancing policy advisory capacity and supporting the development of a legal framework for sustainable plastic management. A representative from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment also shared perspectives on maintaining the NPAP mechanism beyond 2025, emphasizing the need for autonomy and deeper integration into national circular economy strategies.
In the scope of the event, it was also dedicated to a national consultation workshop in preparation for the upcoming INC 5.2 negotiations on the Global Plastics Treaty. Delegates received updates from GPAP on the negotiation process, expert recommendations, and insights from private sector representatives, associations, and NGOs. The workshop concluded with an open discussion to develop Viet Nam’s negotiation stance and key priorities, ensuring alignment between national interests and global responsibilities.
This event series marked an important milestone, signaling a clear shift in NPAP Viet Nam’s journey from foundation-setting to driving concrete action. The integration of data, policy, and finance in a single forum created a solid platform for implementing systemic and feasible circular plastic solutions, while reaffirming Viet Nam’s proactive role and responsibility in the global effort to end plastic pollution and achieve its Net Zero 2050 commitment.
