Event Statement: Net Zero Conference organised by FTU

In the context of climate change becoming a global challenge, the carbon market has emerged as a key economic tool that promotes greenhouse gas emission reductions and supports the transition to a low-carbon economy. In Vietnam, the commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 has created an urgent need for research, academic exchange, and learning from international experience. With the goal of connecting researchers, experts, policymakers, and businesses, the International Conference themed "International Carbon Markets for Sustainable Transition: From Advanced Theory to Innovated Practice" was co-organized by KLINOVA and the FTU Institute for Creative Research (FICR). The conference did not stop at discussing scientific arguments but also served as a practical forum to propose solutions for operating the carbon market in Vietnam, contributing to the realization of national climate commitments.

The pioneering highlight of the event is the Net Zero Conference Statement. This is a practical commitment by the Organizing Committee to minimize the carbon footprint of the event's organizing activities. Through a rigorous inventory process based on international standards, the total greenhouse gas emissions from all conference activities, including transportation, accommodation, energy use, and logistics, were determined to be 9.54 tons of CO2. To fully offset these emissions, KLINOVA and its partners completed the purchase and retirement of 10 international standard carbon credits from the Gold Standard platform. The successful offsetting of these 10 tons of CO2 enabled the Conference to achieve its initial goal of net-zero emissions as originally planned.

Alongside the purchase of credits, a Reforestation project with nearly 400 trees was simultaneously implemented, demonstrating the effort to restore ecosystems and create long-term sustainable values. The execution of the Net Zero Conference Statement is a strong affirmation of KLINOVA and Foreign Trade University in matching words with actions. This is not only an important milestone in sustainable event organization but also an inspiration for the business community and organizations in Vietnam to act together on the roadmap towards Net Zero.
