On March 4-5, 2026, Foreign Trade University (FTU) hosted the international conference titled “International Carbon Markets for Sustainable Transition: From Advanced Theory to Innovated Practice” in Hanoi. The event brought together numerous researchers, experts, international organizations, as well as representatives from government agencies and businesses interested in carbon markets and green transition.
The conference served as an important academic forum for exchanging insights on legal frameworks, operational mechanisms, and innovative initiatives to promote international carbon markets, particularly as countries accelerate efforts to achieve carbon neutrality and implement mechanisms under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.
In the opening remarks, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Thi Thu Thuy - President of the Scientific and Training Council of Foreign Trade University, emphasized the importance of developing a transparent and effective carbon market supported by an appropriate legal framework. According to her, strengthening the connection between academic research, policymaking, and market practice will help Vietnam and other countries in the region build a sustainable carbon market ecosystem.

Over the two-day program, the conference featured in-depth panel discussions, roundtables, and parallel sessions focusing on key topics such as assessing the effectiveness of existing carbon markets, integrating and harmonizing international carbon markets, technological innovations in carbon governance, as well as the relationship between carbon markets and international trade and investment.
KLINOVA actively participated in the conference as a technical and academic supporter, with multiple experts and speakers contributing to presentations and discussions. Under the leadership of Dr. Nguyen Phuong Nam, KLINOVA experts shared research on global carbon market development trends, Vietnam’s carbon market policy landscape, and international experiences in designing market mechanisms and emission governance.

Notably, the conference was organized under a NetZero conference model, jointly implemented by the Institute for Creative Research of Foreign Trade University with technical support from KLINOVA in greenhouse gas inventory and carbon neutrality-related activities. This initiative aimed to minimize and offset emissions generated by the conference itself while promoting the concept of low-emission academic events.

Through the research presentations and academic exchanges at the conference, KLINOVA experts contributed valuable practical insights and policy recommendations to support Vietnam in building and operating a transparent, efficient, and internationally aligned carbon market.

The conference reaffirmed the importance of international collaboration, academic exchange, and multi-stakeholder engagement in advancing carbon market development. By bringing together researchers, policymakers, and industry experts, the event contributed to strengthening knowledge sharing and fostering partnerships that will support Vietnam’s transition toward a low-carbon economy and deeper integration into the global carbon market.
