With the theme "Solutions to Accelerate the Development of New Energy Sources to Shape a New Economic Era", the forum delved into pressing energy issues as Vietnam enters a period of strong economic growth.
Vietnam has set a target of over 8% economic growth by 2025, aiming to achieve double-digit growth from 2026 onwards. To achieve this goal, along with its Net Zero commitment that Mr. Prime Minister made at COP26, Vietnam must undergo a profound transformation towards a digital and green economy, leveraging high technology and artificial intelligence to maximize available resources.
According to Dr. Chu Van Lam, Standing Vice President of the Vietnam Economic Science Association and Editor-in-Chief of Vietnam Economic Journal, electricity and clean, green energy are fundamental and vital to economic development. To meet growing demands, electricity production must increase by 12-16% annually—a significant challenge for the power sectors, requiring collective and significant efforts from the entire political system.
Indeed, this target necessitates urgent technological transformation, expanded adoption of renewable energy, and improvements in efficiency and productivity of existing projects. It also calls for greater investment attraction to develop new energy projects and innovative energy solutions in Vietnam. Although the National Power Development Plan VIII was introduced in 2023, current implementation highlights the need for policy and regulatory adjustments to align with the vision of fast, green, and modern growth.
The Vietnam Energy Forum 2025 set out three key objectives:
- Updating new energy trends: Providing information on the development of clean energy in Vietnam and worldwide, along with crucial policy and regulatory changes.
- Analyzing international experience: Evaluating global trends and practical lessons in sustainable energy development.
- Proposing solutions and policies: Offering recommendations to ensure energy equity, aiming toward Vietnam’s sustainable development goals.
During the discussion session, experts in economics, energy, and sustainable development shared in-depth insights and analyses on “Solutions to Accelerate the Development of New Energy Sources to Meet Economic and Social Development Needs in the New Era.”
The Vietnam Energy Forum 2025 provided valuable and highly practical information, offering relevant stakeholders a solid foundation to build effective energy development strategies for the future.
