International Scientific Seminar: Developing Sustainable Smart Cities through the Perspective of Logistics and Supply Chain Management

07:58 | 25/08/2026
Held as part of the DAAD Alumni Event 2026, the International Scientific Seminar jointly organized by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the University of Transport and Communications (UTC) concluded successfully, featuring key presentations by Prof. Dr. Hans-Dietrich Haasis and Mr. Tran Thanh Hai (Deputy Director General of the Agency of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Industry and Trade), attracting strong interest from experts, policymakers, and the business community.

The event served as an in-depth forum centered on the research project: “Developing Sustainable Smart Cities through the Perspective of Logistics and Supply Chain Management”, providing multifaceted insights ranging from policy formulation and academic training to real-world business operations.
The seminar offered a comprehensive perspective by identifying logistics as an indispensable backbone of smart and sustainable cities, emphasizing the importance of applying technologies such as AI, Big Data, and Digital Twins in combination with human intelligence. At the same time, it highlighted the need to shift the mindset from "vehicle management" to "cargo flow management," recognizing data as the core soft infrastructure to optimize overall social costs.

Participating in the seminar, Dr. Nam NGUYEN, DAAD Alumnus and General Director of KLINOVA Joint Stock Company, delivered a keynote on "Trends in Green Transition for Vietnamese Logistics Enterprises." The presentation not only held high academic value but also provided practical solution frameworks, paving strategic pathways for the logistics business community on their journey toward Net Zero.

As part of the program, the delegates also had the opportunity to experience the Hanoi Metro system, with the visit directly introduced by Mr. Nguyen Van Ngoc, Member of the Members’ Council and General Director of Hanoi Railway One Member Limited Liability Company (Hanoi Metro). After five years of operation, the system has served more than 75 million passenger trips, demonstrating the growing role of urban rail transit in Hanoi’s public transportation network.

It is hoped that Hanoi will continue to develop more Metro lines in the coming years, contributing to a greener, smarter, and more sustainable transportation system for the capital.
