n the "Sunday Forum" program broadcast on VOV1 - Voice of Vietnam under the theme "Developing the Domestic Carbon Trading Market to Promote Green and Sustainable Economic Growth", Dr. Nam NGUYEN, CEO of Climate Innovation Advisory & Services Company (KLINOVA), and Mr. Le Nguyen Trung Thanh, Deputy Head of the Market Surveillance Department at the Vietnam Exchange (VNX), provided in-depth analyses on the economy's green transition roadmap.
Dr. Nam NGUYEN emphasized that launching and operating the trading floor for greenhouse gas emission quotas and carbon credits is a strategic step, serving as a valuable "commercial passport" that helps both Vietnamese enterprises and FDI companies meet strict international market standards. Drawing from practical experience in advising multinational corporations, he pointed out key technical bottlenecks that the business community needs to resolve to enhance market liquidity, including greenhouse gas inventory capacity, the establishment of measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV) systems, as well as clarifying regulations regarding eligible participants and tradable carbon credit types.
In addition, Dr. Nam NGUYEN aligned with the perspective of pioneering enterprises, asserting that during the pilot phase, the top priority must be regulatory compliance rather than turning quotas into financial speculation tools. The emergence of the carbon trading floor alongside green credit and green bond channels will create strong momentum, driving businesses toward genuine green transition and avoiding superficial PR campaigns.
The insights shared by the experts on the Sunday Forum VOV1 have contributed an objective, professional perspective, highlighting both real opportunities and practical challenges for the carbon market in Vietnam. As green transition becomes an inevitable trend, accurately identifying technical bottlenecks and building a structured compliance roadmap will serve as a vital foundation for the business community to proactively adapt, contributing to the completion of the green financial framework and enhancing the economy's international competitiveness.
